In September 2020 storm Ianos hit Thessalia and caused such damage and destruction that the region has never seen before or remembered in its history.

Three years later who would have guessed that another storm would hit Thessalia like a vengeance. This storm unfortunately has stripped the region of its goodness. It took everything with it including people’s livelihood and lives.

Having recently returned from Greece and driving through the roads of Thessalia the devastation was extremely evident. Everything we heard on the Greek news is true and worse. Upon visiting one of the monasteries, I ran into a priest who recently returned from a village just outside of the city of Karditsa. I asked him what he saw…all he could do was shake his head in disbelief and said things are worse than what we hear.

Our hearts and prayers go out to all these people and families whose lives have been destroyed by these floods. Their needs are great.
The office of Consulate General of Greece to Toronto has information on their website and Facebook where people can donate funds to help support these families and the infrastructure.  This information is also printed in the Greek newspaper, The Greek Press.

Our Federation is currently in communication with the Red Cross Society discussing future support. More information on this will be posted.
