For the first time, this year, Greece will be awarding the winners of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon with golden wreaths imported from Greece, crafted out of olive branches, which originate from the region of Marathon.
On Tuesday, October 15th at 6 p.m. the wreaths will be presented to the race director of the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon at a special ceremony at the Royal Ontario Museum. The keynote speaker at the event will be Professor Kostas Bourazelis from the University of Athens who will give a lecture on “Current Research on the Battle of Marathon as a Landmark in History”. The event will also be attended by students from different schools in Toronto, who will be awarded with scholarships after having participated in an essay competition on this subject.
