The Hellenic Initiative Canada Responds to Greek Wildfires


The Hellenic Initiative Canada (THI Canada) announces its response to the Greek Wildfires in Athens. Working with its affiliates in the US and Australia, THI Canada, is providing direct funds and appealing to the community at large for assistance in response to the horrific loss of life and property caused by the wildfires.The tragic fires in Greece have claimed over 80 lives, with dozens more still missing. Authorities have confirmed that at least 187 people were injured from the blazes, including 23 children, with nine people in intensive care. Around 3000 homes have been destroyed by the blaze at the seaside resorts of Mati and Rafina. The fire has been declared the worst in Greece since the 2007 southern Peloponnese peninsula, which killed approximately 70 people and injured hundreds.This is an urgent call for action by Greeks and Philhellenes in Canada to assist in providing food, shelter and health care to people affected by this calamity.
