Γενική Συνέλευση και Εκλογές για την Ελληνική Κοινότητα Τορόντο

Αγαπητά μέλη της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Τορόντο, 

Σας ενημερώνουμε ότι η Ετήσια Γενική Συνέλευση της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Τορόντο θα πραγματοποιηθεί στις 5 Δεκεμβρίου 2021 στο Πολυμενάκειο Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο (30 Thorncliffe Park Drive), στις 2:30μ.μ. Κατά τη διάρκεια της συνέλευσης εκτός των άλλων θεμάτων θα παρουσιαστεί ο οικονομικός απολογισμός από τους ορκωτούς λογιστές του Οργανισμού. 

Βάσει του καταστατικού της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Τορόντο, και υπό κανονικές συνθήκες, οι Γενικές Εκλογές διεξάγονται την 4η Κυριακή του Νοεμβρίου, κάθε εκλογικού έτους. Λόγω κορονοϊού και λοιπών εξελίξεων, κι έχοντας ως γνώμονα το συμφέρον του Οργανισμού και των μελών αυτού, αποφασίσαμε όπως: 

- οι εκλογές για την ανάδειξη του Διοικητικού Συμβουλίου της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Τορόντο θα διεξαχθούν την Κυριακή 12 Δεκεμβρίου, 2021 στο Πολυμενάκειο Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο 

- οι κάλπες θα ανοίξουν στις 12:00μ.μ. και θα κλείσουν στις 7:00μ.μ. 

- όσοι επιθυμούν να θέσουν υποψηφιότητα για την εκλογή τους ως μέλη του διοικητικού συμβουλίου μπορούν να προμηθευτούν την ειδική φόρμα από τα γραφεία της Κοινότητας ή από την ιστοσελίδα www.greekcommunity.org 

- ο εκλογικός κατάλογος είναι στη διάθεση των μελών, στα γραφεία της Κοινότητας 

- δικαίωμα ψήφου στις εκλογές έχουν μόνο τα μέλη, των οποίων τα ονόματα είναι καταγεγραμμένα στον κατάλογο των ψηφοφόρων 

- δικαίωμα ψήφου στις εκλογές έχουν: 

(α) όσοι έχουν συμπληρώσει το δεκατο όγδοο (18) έτος της ηλικίας τους, και 

(β) όσοι έχουν ενεργή συνδρομή τουλάχιστον (3) μήνες πριν την ημέρα των εκλογών 

- τα μέλη έχουν την υποχρέωση να ελέγξουν τον εκλογικό κατάλογο προκειμένου να βεβαιωθούν ότι το όνομα και η διεύθυνσή τους είναι ορθά 

- μέλη τα οποία είναι εγγεγραμμένα στον γενικό κατάλογο, αλλά δεν έχουν τακτοποιήσει τις οικονομικές τους υποχρεώσεις, μπορούν να ανανεώσουν τη συνδρομή τους μέχρι τη Δευτέρα 6 Δεκεμβρίου, από τις 9:00π.μ. έως τις 6:00μ.μ. 

- τα γραφεία της Ελληνικής Κοινότητας Τορόντο είναι ανοιχτά από Δευτέρα ως Παρασκευή από τις 9:00π.μ. έως τις 5:00μ.μ. Τη Δευτέρα 6 Δεκεμβρίου, τα γραφεία θα παραμείνουν ανοιχτά για το κοινό μέχρι τις 6:00μ.μ. 

- σε περίπτωση που η συνδρομή μέλους λήγει, φεριπείν στις 11 Δεκεμβρίου 2021 και οι εκλογές είναι στις 12 Δεκεμβρίου 2021, το μέλη που επιθυμούν να ασκήσουν το εκλογικό τους δικαίωμα, θα πρέπει να ανανεώσουν τη συνδρομή τους μέχρι τις 6 Δεκεμβρίου 2021. 

- οι ψηφοφόροι πρέπει να αποδείξουν την ταυτότητά τους. Ως αποδεικτικά στοιχεία μπορούν να παρουσιάσουν επίσημο κυβερνητικό έγγραφο (άδεια οδήγησης, διαβατήριο, κάρτα υπηκοότητας, OHIP, κ.λ.π.) 

- ΑΠΑΓΟΡΕΥΕΤΑΙ η ψηφοφορία με εξουσιοδότηση 

Ευχόμαστε οι καινούργιες ιδέες των νέων και οι γνώσεις των πεπειραμένων, να μας οδηγήσουν σε μια ΔΥΝΑΤΗ και ΜΟΝΙΑΣΜΕΝΗ Κοινότητα, η οποία ανήκει σε όλους εμάς, στα παιδιά μας και στα παιδιά των παιδιών μας.

PRESS RELEASE - Elections Committee

Monday November 1st, 2021

Dear members of the Greek Community of Toronto, 

We would like to inform you that the Annual General Meeting of the Greek Community of Toronto will take place on Sunday December 5th, 2021 at 2:30pm at the Polymenakion Cultural Center (30 Thorncliffe Park Drive). During the General Meeting the Chartered Accountants appointed by the Greek Community of Toronto will present the audited financial statements of the organisation. 

According to the constitution of the Greek Community, and under normal circumstances, the General Elections are held on the 4th Sunday of the November, of each election year. Due to the pandemic and other circumstances, and also having in mind the interest of the Organization and its members, we inform you on the following: 

- the elections of the Board of Directors of the Greek Community of Toronto will be held on 

Sunday, December 12, 2021 at the Polymenakion Cultural Center 

- the ballot boxes will open at 12:00p.m. and will close at 7:00p.m. 

- Those who are interested in applying for a position in the board of directors should complete the Candidate and Nomination Form provided by the office of the Greek Community of Toronto. The form is also available at www.greekcommunity.org 

- the electoral roll is at the disposal of the members, at the offices of the Greek Community of Toronto 

- only members whose names are registered in the voter list have the right to vote in the elections 

- according to the Elections By-Law a person is entitled to vote in the regular election if he/she: 

(a) Is at least eighteen (18) years old, and 

(b) has been a member in good standing of the Community for at least three (3) months immediately preceding voting day 

- members have the obligation to check the voter list, in order to make sure that their name and address are correct 

- members who are registered in the general list, but have not settled their financial obligations, can renew their membership by Monday, December 6, 2021 from 9:00am to 6:00p.m. 

- the office of the Greek Community of Toronto is open from Monday to Friday, from 9:00a.m. until 5:00p.m. On Monday, December 6th the office will be open to the public until 6:00pm. 

- If the membership expires (for example) on December 11, 2021 and the elections are on December 12, 2021 the members who wish to cast their vote, they must renew their membership by December 6, 2021. 

- voters must prove their identity. As evidence, they can present a government issued photo card (driving license, passport, citizenship card, OHIP, etc.) 

- voting by power of attorney is PROHIBITED 

We hope that the new ideas of the youth and the knowledge of the experienced, will lead us to a STRONG and PROSPEROUS Community, which belongs to all of us, to our children and to their children.

CANDIDATES AND NOMINATION PROCEDURE 

FOR THE UPCOMING ELECTIONS ON DECEMBER 12, 2021 

PROCEDURE 

(1) A member shall be nominated as a Candidate by filing a nomination paper in the prescribed form with the Chairman which: 

(a) shall be signed by two (2) electors whose names appear on the preliminary list of electors; 

(b) shall state the name and address of the nominee; 

(c) shall state the name and address of each nominator; 

(d) shall be signed by the nominee consenting to the nomination; and 

(e) shall be accompanied by a deposit in cash or cheque payable to “Greek Community of Toronto” in the amount of $50.00, which shall be nonrefundable. 

(2) Each Candidate shall be nominated by a separate nomination paper, and an elector may sign the nomination papers of more than one Candidate. 

TIMING 

(1) The time period for filing nomination papers shall close at 6:00p.m. on Monday December 6th, 2021 

(2) All nominations shall be received by the Chairman not later than the time specified (December 6, 2021). 

QUALIFICATIONS 

GENERAL 

Any member may be a Candidate in an election provided that: 

(a) He is a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant; 

(b) He is at least eighteen years of age; 

(c) He is a member in good standing of the Community; 

(d) He has been or will have been a member in good standing of the Community for at least one period of twelve (12) consecutive months during the sixty (60) month period preceding the election date; 

(e) He does not have a criminal record; 

(f) New members are eligible for nomination or election as a director if they are a member of the Corporation in good standing for one year prior to the date of the election and must be of Hellenic Descent or have a spouse of Hellenic descent. All disputes regarding membership shall be resolved by a majority vote of the Board of Directors.
