It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our father, Panteleimon (Peter) Stefanou, on the early morning of January 7, 2024, surrounded by his devoted wife and his four children.
He was born in Athens, Greece, on April 6, 1953 to loving parents (predeceased) Fotini and Odisseas Stefanou.
He is survived by his sisters Efrosini Koliopoulou and Angeliki Tsivelekou and (predeceased) brother Alexandros Stefanou. At the age of 16 he convinced his parents to let him join the military to alleviate the family's financial burden.
He then embarked on a seafaring journey, managing and maintaining a ship. He sailed from Greece to Israel, Italy, France, Japan, and so many other countries which led him to Guyana.
This is where he met, fell in love and married his beautiful wife Baby in 1977. They lived a fulfilled life together and were blessed with their 4 children.
He was a beloved father to Fotini Taylor and husband Chas, Julietta Koutinas and husband Lefteris, Nicoletta Stefanou and husband Diamandis and Odisseas Stefanou. He was also a loving Papou to Grace and Oliver.
He was known for his amazing personality. He loved to entertain his family and friends with gatherings at his home, filling everyone’s bellies with the most delicious home cooked meals like his magic chicken and his famous lamb on a spit.
All who knew him knew he loved his trips to Greece where he spent time with his nieces, nephews, sisters and various family members and friends. He loved listening to music, enjoyed karaoke, loved to get on the dance floor, was an awesome bongo player and enjoyed riding his motorcycle with his son.
He even joined his kids, nieces and nephews for bicycle rides around the city. Peter will forever be cherished for his kind heart and willingness to help anyone in need. Peter is a guy who would give you the shirt off his back. He was the guy you called if you needed help.
May his memory be eternal and may he forever be in our hearts.
